Oatmeal Cake


Ingredients
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 ½ cup hot water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ cup Crisco oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ cup plain flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla


Icing:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 Tbs Karo syrup
  • ½ tsp soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla


Directions


Combine oats, hot water and brown sugar and let stand. Mix all other cake ingredients and combine with oat mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.

Icing: While cake is baking, combine icing ingredients and boil for 6 to 8 minutes.

Punch holes in top of cake and pour icing over while cake is still hot.
